Hidden Clutter
We all live with clutter to some extent, because we all have things that we are hanging onto simply because we haven't gotten around to deciding to get rid of it. It could be that ugly vase received 12 years ago as a wedding present or some hand-me down furniture from Grandma. Sometimes it's less obvious. Sometimes it's in a box in the attic or in the crawl space. It is important to keep our storage areas as tidy and organized as the rest of the house so we can find the pressure washer and patio cushions when we need them.

When you're living in clutter, it's like wearing skis on your feet--indoors... You can function, but you move slowly and tediously, and use wasted brainpower. Clutter may not always live on your tabletops, floors, and bookshelves, but what about your garage, attic, or crawl space? Keeping clutter in these areas may seem like a good idea because it doesn't impact your every day, but how long does it take you to find what you are actually looking for? And what condition is it in when you do?

In an organized house...
everyone--without exception--moves freer and faster. Minute-by-minute:

· You no longer have to wiggle through your storage. Those obstacles on your shelves and floor--like moguls--are simply gone.
· You can locate things immediately--either because you know where things are, or because your line of sight is clear and everything is clearly labeled. If a shelf isn't overloaded, the thing you're looking for jumps right out!
· You get out the door faster, and without wrestling or tripping!

It takes some initial effort and practice: a gradual change in habits. You're already reading--and hopefully implementing--the tips from our newsletters! That's a start. Just keep going. Tackle one project a month making sure all the items you really use and love have a designated home. If you need help with the planning or execution of reorganizing your storage spaces give Purpose in Place a call or email. We've got some great ideas, know of ideal tools, and will make your project fun. Take advantage of the coupon at the bottom of this newsletter for yourself or a deserving Mom you know.
