Here we go again, exam time...June is the time of year where your high school kids start to day dream about summer, when what they really should be doing is getting ready for exams. Here are a few tips to help you get them focused. Probably the most important factor is where the studying will take place. It needs to be a quiet space with very little distractions: no television, no music, no phone and no computer unless it is needed for the class they are studying for. (We all know how much studying gets done when MSN, Nexopia, Facebook, Myspace and Twitter are readily available) The space also needs to be clutter free and organized with all the necessary tools for success.
Choosing the best time to study can also be a challenge but setting specific times for specific classes will help keep students on track. Try having them make up a study chart or calendar that can be kept either on the desk, or taped to the wall where they will be doing their studying. Whether it's after school, after dinner or after their activities, finding the best time is really the key to keeping on track and sticking to the plan.
The skills your children learn from studying for high school exams will carry over in helping them successfully get through all of their College/University classes and exams. And will even help them with their careers and lifestyles as adults. Being organized is a lifelong skill that everyone can learn and strive for.
Happy studying...
