Problem
The bedroom was doubling as a storage room for pictures, paintings, wrapping paper, books and file boxes. The en-suite closet was crammed with too many clothes, shoes, and wire hangers. The hall closet held linens VHS movies, DVD movies and all kinds of toys that the kids had long outgrown. Our client wanted her bedroom to be a retreat from her busy life and really wanted all her things to have a permanent home.

Solution
Our client decided she wanted to do some of the sorting and purging ahead of time. When we arrived she had purged a lot of clothes from her closet and removed 90% of the items that didn’t belong from the bedroom. She also went through
her linens and got rid of old sets that the family no longer used. We began with the closet, organizing all her and her husbands’ clothes in to categories and changing all the wire hangers to plastic ones. We built a storage shelf for all her shoes to get them out
of their boxes and keep them accessible. We folded all her sweaters on a shelf in the closet leaving more room in her dresser. We also gave her a step stool in the closet to create easy access to the (yet empty) upper shelves. In the hall closet we sorted through
all the movies, games, and toys with the client and donated several large bags to charity. We moved all of her wrapping paper, bows, ribbons, and cards into Rubbermaid bins on their own shelf. We also came across a lot of keepsake items during this process, so we
gave each child their own keepsake bin and one for our client and her husband. The games that the family still uses went back into the closet and some were put into plastic bins that will be taken to their new cabin in the country. The bedroom got a good cleaning
and now that all the extra items had been removed it was easy to transform into a relaxing, clutter-free retreat.
